If you’re looking to go out and back one at the front market, then Perotto looks good. As mentioned in the Coral Challenge odds piece, this is a horse that is well handicapped right now. He’s coming off the back of two solid effort at Ascot and it’s absolutely fair to say that this contest, as good as it is, is a little less demanding.

We’re also talking about a horse that has won at Sandown before, while he also tends to do his best work on surface that is a little bit softer than good, so the forecast dig in the ground bodes well. For the in-form Roger Varian yard, he’s got a big chance and deserves his place near the head of the market. 7/1 also offers enough juice for each-way backers, who can take advantage of five places being paid.

Our Each-Way Prediction: Silent Film @ 12/1 (each-way)

At bigger odds, Silent Film looks well worthy of some each-way support. He’s another runner who returned for the season at Royal Ascot, which certainly isn’t an easy task, and he was far from disgraced when finishing eighth (of 29) in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.

This race is a little less demanding, while he ought to strip fitter for that effort. He’s also won at Sandown before, while the booking on top rider William Buick is certainly eye-catching.

Our Dark Horse Prediction: Revich @ 25/1 (each-way)

At bigger odds still, I wouldn’t rule out Revich, who loves it when the ground is on the softer side and who knows how to run well in races of this nature. He wasn’t far behind Perotto in the Royal Hunt Cup, while his record on good-to-soft is not to be sneezed at, what with him winning or placing in five out of nine.

Three times a winner at Class 2 level, the mount of Jim Crowley has also placed at this level on a further eight occasions, so he’s well used to making his presence felt. With a decent pace almost guaranteed, if Crowley can get him well positioned, it really would be no surprise to see him come with a late run and get involved near the line.
