The Everest at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections

It’s quickly become one of the most anticipated dates on the Spring Racing calendar, and there is no shortage of value to be found in Saturday’s seventh instalment of The $20 million Everest race

A wide-open field is set to step out over 1200m, headlined by proven Group 1 winners I Wish I Win and Think About It, alongside promising up and comers like Hawaii Five Oh and this year’s Golden Slipper winner, Shinzo.

There’s a case to be made for most and we’ve got you covered with our top four Everest selections right here!

The Everest – Winner

An Everest win would almost put the finishing touches on Think About It’s growing resume.

Joe Pride’s gelding has put together 10 wins from 11 career starts, storming the line late to win the Group 2 Premiere Stakes after being given a nice patient steer off the speed by Sam Clipperton.

As we saw when he won the Stradbroke Handicap, the son of So You Think tends to improve the deeper he gets into his prep, and although this is by far the toughest assignment he’s contested, this still looks a lovely race for him if Clipperton can save his best for late.

Suggested Bet: Think About It

The Everest – 2nd

Buenos Noches is capable of running a huge race at odds for trainer Matthew Smith.

The son of Supido continues to improve with racing, rattling off the fastest final 200m of the day when running on late for third behind Private Eye in The Shorts last time out.

Getting back out to 1200m is a tick in the right box, while his form around the likes of In Secret and Coolangatta over the last 12 months reads exceptionally well.

Suggested Bet: Buenos Noches

The Everest – 3rd

In Secret is the pick of the two Godolphin runners for mine.

The I Am Invincible mare presents fitter for two runs back, sticking to the task well for fourth in The Shorts three weeks ago where she had nothing but daylight in front of her.

She was a dominant winner of the Newmarket at this stage of her prep during the autumn, and now gets the added services of Zac Purton steering.

The gate makes things slightly awkward, but it might aid her to settle back in the run and pounce late.

Suggested Bet: In Secret

The Everest- 4th

Espiona has been in winning form of late, resuming at Rosehill to run second in the Sheraco Stakes, a performance she improved on significantly two weeks later to win the Golden Pendant

The Extreme Choice mare has a bit of an awkward racing style, but she’s armed with a serious turn of foot that was evident when she let down well at the 200m mark a few weeks ago.

This is tougher, but she did win the Coolmore at this stage of her prep during the autumn and I think she’ll be given every chance coming off the speed under Hugh Bowman.
