The Football Teams Darts Players Support

Darts continues to beone of the most exciting sports to watch in-person or live on television, withplayers, especially from the PDC, more popular than ever before. And leadingdarts players and the personalities from the sport, like many others, also havean interest in football, and here are the teams they’re known to support.

Michael van Gerwen

There’s only one placeto start, and that’s with Michael van Gerwen, a three-time PDC world champion.Thirty-four-year-old Mighty Mike has been playing darts since 2002, winning toomany honours since then to mention. Van Gerwen hails from the Netherlands, justtwenty-five miles away from the city of Eindhoven, so PSV are his team. Andlike PSV, just looking at the odds offered by major sports books online, van Gerwenis always in the running to win things and has already collected the PremierLeague Darts title in 2023.

Michael Smith

Current PDC worldchampion MichaelSmith hails from St Helens, which is on Merseyside, so itmay surprise some that he’s actually an avid Manchester United supporter. Theworld number one didn’t publicly reveal his allegiance to the club until he wasasked why the crowd at a 2019 event in Liverpool gave somewhat of a mixedreaction to him, even though you could have said it was his home crowd. Smithsuggested it was because he was a Manchester United fan.

Gary Anderson

Gary Anderson may not bethe force he once was, but The Flying Scotsman has won most things throughouthis glittering career, including world championships back to back in 2015 and2016. At fifty-two, and after multiple injury problems, Anderson will likely beplotting what he plans to do when he puts the arrows away. And his plans couldinclude spending more time watching his beloved Hibernian, who are currentlyplaying in the Scottish Premiership.

Steven Bunting

Unlike Michael Smith,Steven Bunting was born in Liverpool, lives in St Helens and supportsLiverpool. So, he always receives a warm welcome when he plays any events inhis home city. The thirty-eight-year-old, who is nicknamed The Bullet, is aformer BDO world champion, and at last year’s PDC world championships, lost at thequarter-finals stage to fellow St Helener Smith, who went on to win the wholething.

Willie Borland

Willie Borland is one ofthe younger players on the PDC circuit at twenty-six, and while he’s stilllooking to make the latter rounds of major tournaments, he is famous forthrowing an impressive nine-darter at the world championships in 2022. BigWillie hails from East Calder, so like Anderson, he’s a Scotsman, but Borland’steam is Rangers. And, according to his friends, he’s a fanatical supporter ofthe Gers who is as passionate as they come.

For darts players, that’sarguably the sport they love the most because of how much time they spendpractising and playing. But, when you’re involved in sports, you will likely enjoyother types, and football is seemingly a bit hit with darts players on the PDCcircuit.
