The great T20 World Cup upsets following Ireland's triumph
Ireland beat England by five runs at the MCG on Wednesday. It is the first time Ireland have beaten England in T20Is. Australia lost to New Zealand earlier in the day.
Ireland won the Cricket World Cup in 2009. They beat Bangladesh in their first T20 World cup match. Niall and Kevin scored 40 and 39 runs respectively.
Hong Kong defeated Bangladesh by two wickets. Haseeb Amjad hit a six to win with two balls to spare. Bangladesh were reduced to 109-8 by Hong Kong spinners Nadeem Ahmed and Nizakat Khan.
Scotland defeated Bangladesh in the 2021 edition of T20I in Oman. Chris Greaves made 45 in 28 balls to rescue the team from 53/6. Brad Wheal took 3/24.
Netherlands defeated England in T20 World Cup 2014. England were already out of the competition. Mudassar Bukhari took two wickets in two balls to remove Michale Lumb and Alex Hales. Timm van der Gugten removed Eoin Morgan and Peter Borren struck with his first ball to put the Dutch in control. Logan van Beek took 3/9 and England collapsed to 88 all out inside 18 overs.
Zimbabwe defeated Australia in a T20 match in 2007. Elton Chigumbura took 3/20 in 3 overs and Gary Brent 2/19. Vusi Sibanda made 23 from 15 balls and Brendan Taylor made 60 from 45 balls.
Namibia defeated Sri Lanka in 2022. Jan Frylinck scored 44 runs in 28 balls. JJ Smit made 31 runs off 16 balls, Ben Shikongo took 2 wickets. Namibia won by wicket.
Afghanistan defeated West Indies in the final over of the T20 World Cup 2016. Najibullah Zadran scored 48 not out. Mohammad Shahzad's run out of Andre Russell secured the victory.
Netherlands defeated England in their first-ever T20 World Cup match in 2009. Ryan ten Doeschate and Edgar Schiferli played the decisive role in the victory.
