This is the 151st Open features previous winners at the Royal Liverpool course in Hoylake including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Walter Hagen.

Cameron Smith won last year at a big price but it's McIlroy who leads the betting this year at just 7/1 ahead of Scottie Scheffler (9/1) and Jon Rahm 12/1.

The defending champ is out at 16/1 having placed fourth in the US Open last month and tied for ninth at the PGA Championship at the Oak Hill Country Club the month before.

Rahm has been incredibly consistent in the PGA Tour this year, finishing in the top ten on ten separate occasions.

The Open 2023 practice rounds had briefly been halted as thunderstorms headed for the course and that delay has put back the practices despite the rain subsiding for the time being.

McIlroy last won The Open at Hoylake back in 2014 and has also been in-form this season, just this weekend, winning the Scottish Open.

The Northern Irishman has also been agonisingly close in the US Open, coming second, as he also did in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

McIlroy has also placed in the top ten in eight tournaments this year alone, taking home two wins, two second place finishes and looks set to continue that good form here.
