Top Four Odds After Newcastle Lose To Man Utd In Cup Final

Newcastle’s  Top Four odds are at 17/10 after they lost to Manchester United, who are now at 1/7, 2-0 in today’s Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies were the better side in the first-half, having the majority of possession but not troubling David de Gea. However against the run of play, the Red Devils broke the deadlock through a beautiful Casemiro header.

United doubled their lead moments later when Marcus Rashford got onto a Wout Weghorst pass and saw his shot deflect off Sven Botman, into the back of the net.

Both sides made substitutions during the break, with Diogo Dalot coming off for Aaron Wan-Bisakka. Eddie Howe’s side were the better team yet again in the second-half and Joelinton saw his shot blocked off the line by Lisandro Martinez.

United grew into the half and Marcus Rashford came close to making it three, but Karius was equal to it. The Red Devils managed to hold on and Newcastle’s 67 year wait for a trophy continues.

Will Newcastle finish in the Top Four?

Howe’s side are having their best season in recent years, with Champions League qualification being a real possibility. The manager has won fans over instantly and that has helped the Magpies take up a spot in the Top Four for the majority of the season.

Today’s loss does not directly impact their Premier League form, given it was in the Carabao Cup. However, it is a sign of where Newcastle stand in comparison to their fellow Champions League qualification contenders.

The Toon will face Manchester City in their next league fixture and will be looking to continue their hint for Top Four. In the reverse fixture the side drew 3-3, a result the Magpies will be looking to improve.
