Tottenham vs Fulham Odds & Picks

While all signs point to Tottenham getting another win against their cross-city rivals, we're taking an interest in referee Anthony Taylor and how this match may be officiated — keep reading to find out our best bet.

Tottenham looks to reclaim their spot atop the Premier League table, as they welcome cross-city rivals Fulham in the final fixture of Matchday 9 on Monday.

Spurs have fallen out of first following wins for Manchester City and Liverpool, and a draw for Arsenal. However, they look like an entirely different team under new manager Ange Postecoglou, who could set an EPL record for points in his first nine matches with a win on Monday.

Fulham will hope to prevent that, having been the only club to hand Spurs a defeat in this campaign. Their win last month in the EFL Cup second round saw Fulham knock Spurs out on penalties, albeit against a rotated Tottenham side. They’ll also hope to pick up a point and pull further away from the relegation battle.

It’s a London Derby with plenty of storylines, and we’ll break down how to bet on the match in our EPL picks and predictions for Tottenham vs. Fulham below.

EPL predictions for Tottenham vs Fulham

Tottenham’s surge to the top of the table heading into this week can be directly tied to the resurgence of midfielder Yves Bissouma. He’s been a rock in the center of the pitch for Spurs, ranking in the Top 5 of the league with 26 tackles. And his play has allowed newcomer James Maddison the freedom to roam the pitch looking for chances to create opportunities for his teammates.

However, Bissouma’s going to be watching Monday’s match from the sideline — and the reason why ties directly into our best bet, as we’re expecting 6+ cards to be shown by referee Anthony Taylor.

The Premier League has been cracking down on time-wasting and other issues this season, and it’s led to an explosion in bookings. Nearly every match over the weekend went past the designated number before the match, with multiple matches on Saturday featuring 9+ cards.

Bissouma’s suspension was coming sooner rather than later, as his first yellow card against Luton before the international break was his fifth of the season, but his suspension started earlier than expected when he picked up a second yellow in first-half stoppage time. The cards were two of three Spurs saw on the day, with five being flashed in total.

But while there weren’t a lot of bookings in that match, few teams have seen the referee reach to their pocket more than Spurs. Prior to the match with Luton, Tottenham was involved in some spicy outings.

Their 2-1 win over Liverpool featured 12 total bookings, including a straight red and a second yellow both shown to Liverpool. The match before against Arsenal? Seven players were booked, including four Spurs. And their 2-1 win over Sheffield saw a staggering 13 cards. That included six different Tottenham players having their names taken.

And that brings us back to Monday’s match. First, let’s look at the man in the middle. Anthony Taylor isn’t afraid to use cards to control a match, and he’s averaging more than five yellows shown per match through his first seven in charge.

Last week, he was in charge of a European qualifier between Croatia and Turkey. Nine players went into his book on the day. In his seven fixtures in league play, Taylor has shown 5+ cards on four occasions. That includes Man City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest nearly a month ago. He brandished 11 cards, including a straight red card to Rodri just after halftime.

Spurs have been the beneficiary of three red cards this season — the most of any team in the league — as well as having 27 yellows shown to their opponents. That’s helped by drawing the third-most fouls entering the weekend.

They've also seen the second-most bookings heading into the weekend, with 29 yellows and a red card. Fulham haven’t been much better behaved. While they’ve seen fewer of late, they’ve been shown 22 yellows so far this season.

With Bissouma out, it’s going to be a bit tougher for Tottenham to control the match. Joao Palhinha is one of the top tacklers in the league, and if he’s able to force turnovers, it’s going to lead to counter-attacks for Fulham. Counter-attacks lead to more open play and transition opportunities, and those tend to lead to more yellows.

Until the books start adjusting the yellow card totals, this is a market that can be exploited.

Tottenham vs Fulham same-game parlay

Over 5.5 cards

Destiny Udogie to commit 2+ fouls

Under 3.5

Our same-game parlay sees us heading to FanDuel, where we’re going to stick with the fouls angle as well as a lower-scoring affair due to Bissouma’s absence.

Destiny Udogie has been a solid performer this season for Spurs, with the new left-back having solidified his starting spot, but he’s also leading the team in tackles committed, having committed multiple fouls in five of his eight EPL starts.

Eight of those have come in his last three matches, and he’s offering a solid price to have multiple fouls. Without Bissouma to clean up some of the messes in the middle, I expect he’ll be put in some more situations to defend one-on-one and will get at least two fouls to his name.

When these two teams meet, the goals don’t typically come along. The last six meetings have seen three or fewer goals scored on each occasion, with two or fewer in four of those meetings. Their EFL Cup match ended 1-1, and Fulham have seen no more than three goals in four of their last five matches overall.

Spurs will likely see things flowing a bit less without Bissouma, so we’ll take a lower-scoring affair here to round out a parlay paying close to +600.

Tottenham vs Fulham side and Over/Under analysis

Spurs have been terrific this season, and they’re heavy favorites coming into this fixture. Backing them on the 3-way line will see you paying at least -210, while you can get the draw as high as +400.

Those brave enough to back Fulham to win the London derby outright on the road — against a team they’ve not beaten in their last 10 attempts — will be rewarded with a +600 price.

I’m not willing to be one of those people. Spurs will miss Bissouma, but Maddison leads the Premier League in shots taken and chances created combined. His vision and Heung-min Son’s form will be enough to see them through against a Fulham side that will be missing Issa Diop, Kenny Tete, and Tosin Adarabioyo in defense.

The total for the match is set at 3.5 at most books, with the Under juiced to -155 and the Over paying +125. However, books like DraftKings are offering the Asian line of 3.0 goals, which has the Over juiced a bit higher than the Under at -130.

Given the prices on offer, there’s not much value in the total market. I’d go with the Under 3.5 in a parlay — as we have done — or stay away entirely pre-match while looking for a better price live if there’s an early goal.
