Tottenham target a return to the top of the Premier League with a win against Chelsea on the Monday Night Football

Mauricio Pochettino returns to Tottenham as Chelsea boss on Monday night

Mauricio Pochettino marks his return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but this time in the opposite dug-out, as his Chelsea side are set to take on Spurs.

Chelsea now sit at 13th in the Premier League. After going two goals up against Arsenal two weeks ago, the Blues had started to show signs of form.

This hope was quickly snatched away from them, however, as they conceded two late goals to eventually draw the game. Brentford added salt to the wound by silencing Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 victory in Chelsea’s next match.

It is safe to say that the Blues have been considerably underwhelming so far this season, especially considering the amount the club spent throughout the summer.

This bodes nicely for Tottenham, as they will no doubt be licking their lips here as they aim to regain their spot at the top of the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s men are now the only team remaining in the Premier League with an unbeaten record, a streak that seems unlikely to end any time soon.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Prediction

Tottenham’s offensive form so far this season has been impeccable. Spurs have managed to score over 1.5 goals in nine out of 11 games in all competitions so far this season. Credit can be given to individuals such as Golden Boot contender, and club captain, Heung-min Son. Son has excelled under Postecoglou, scoring eight goals in 10 league appearances.

At times, Chelsea have shown severe vulnerability at the back so far this season, especially in their previous fixture against Brentford. It is hard to imagine Tottenham struggling to find the back of the net here, as Chelsea will need to tighten things up or they may be victims of further embarrassment.

With both of these London-based sides featuring prime candidates for a booking, I expect this version of a London derby to feature a range of emotions throughout the 90 minutes.

Tottenham have averaged 3.09 yellow cards this season, with their visitors averaging 2.46 yellow cards per game. Michael Oliver officiates this match, a referee who averages 4.43 bookings per game. I see this local derby featuring several cards for both teams involved.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Team News

  • Destiny Udogie missed the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last week but has had plenty of time to recover from a knock and should return. Ben Davies also faces a late fitness test.

  • Tottenham's injury list is shortening with Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Alfie Whiteman among those absent.

  • Rodrigo Bentancur returned from a long-term knee injury against Crystal Palace though is unlikely to start.

  • Chelsea remain without no fewer than seven players for this London derby.

  • Benoit Badiashile made his first appearance since May against Blackburn in midweek though is unlikely to start here.

  • Cole Palmer took a knock to the ankle against Blackburn in midweek and will be assessed while Mykhailo Mudryk is back in full training.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Bet Builder Tips

Tottenham to Win

Tottenham don’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down, and it’s tough to make a case for this game causing them too many issues. Spurs should finish this game at the top of the Premier League table.

Over 1.5 Home Goals

As seen so far this season, Tottenham appear clinical in front of goal. They certainly have the firepower capable of scoring multiple goals a game, and their excellent goal-scoring form should continue here.

Over 2.5 Match Cards

With this being a local derby, there are a few individuals from both sides who will be up for it from the opening whistle. I expect multiple fouls and some hard tackles meaning a number of cards to be shown throughout.

You can back this Bet Builder at 13/8 on bet365, with a 25% Winnings Boost taking the total odds to longer than 2/1.
