Twins place Sonny Gray on injured list but haven’t declared him out for season
Sonny Gray is on the 15-day injured list with 16 days left in the season. He is 8-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 24 starts. The Twins lost to the Kansas City Royals 5-4 at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night. Trevor Larnach and Ryan Jeffers are expected to play full games Wednesday and Thursday. Byron Buxton, Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler are still injured. The team's fate could be determined before Gray starts ramping up again. They are 7 1/2 games back with 14 games to go. Their chances are minuscule at best. It's a September meltdown beset with injuries, abysmal offense and not enough pitching.
Carlos Correa, Jose Miranda, Jorge López and Jovani Moran have family in Puerto Rico. Their families are mostly OK, but they worry about the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona. Correra intends to help out struggling communities via his foundation. Moran's town has no running water but has a generator. in 2017, his town was without power for six months and water for three months. He lives in Sabana Grande. Sonny Gray is on the injured list, so he's not out for the season. The Twins are on a stretch run and don't know if they're going to make the playoffs.
