Twins vs. Guardians prediction and odds for Saturday, May 6

It’s a familiar picture in the AL Central as only one team sits above .500. This time it’s the Minnesota Twins who are in Cleveland for a three-game weekend series against the Guardians who are the biggest threat in the division that’s been shaky for a few years now. In the second gmes of this series, on Saturday, we have a fantastic pitching matchup.

Sonny Gray is 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA and will make his seventh start of the year for the Twins against Logan Allen. Allen was one of the highest rated pitching prospects in baseball and has lived up to the hype through two starts with a 2.45 ERA and a 1-1 record.

The Twins and Guardians will be battling for the division all season, so let’s get into the odds for the second game of their first series of 2023.

Twins vs. Guardians prediction and pick

Across baseball, pitchers seem to keep getting taller and taller, but today we have one for the short kings. Sonny Gray is 5-foot-10 and Allen is listed at just 6-foot. These two are proving that you don’t need to stand 6-foot-6 to dominate in the MLB.

Gray is off to the best start of his career and has given up just three runs in his six starts. They weren’t all bunched together either, he is yet to allow more than a single run in any of his outings. Cleveland is 29th in OPS and 27th in runs scored, so Gray should cruise again in this one. The only worry is that he has only gone five innings in three of his six starts and hasn’t gone deeper than the seventh, so it could fall to the Minnesota bullpen.

The same could be the case for Cleveland with Allen who has really impressed, but hasn’t gone more than six innings. Allen struck out eight in each of his first two starts and has only walked three. I expect him to be strong again and for that reason I like the under. Let’s just hope both bullpens hold.
