Bill Clark won 43 games over the last five years. He won five winning seasons, five bowl bids, two Conference USA titles, and one other conference championship appearance. Back issues forced Clark to leave UAB. Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent will take over as the interim head coach. Uab goes into the American Athletic Conference next year.

UAB Blazers have seven returning starters and a slew of decent reserves. The team needs to find more playmakers in the receiving corps. Dylan Hopkins is the main quarterback. DeWayne McBride and Jermaine Brown are the team's top running backs. Tyler Johnston is off to Towson. RaJae Johnson-Sanders is going to Troy. Jacob Zeno is an interesting option to take over if Dylan doesn't perform well. The offensive line has to improve. It has a few new players.

The defense was No. 1 in the conference and 16th in nation allowing 329 yards and 23 points per game. The secondary will be one of the team's biggest strengths. Safety Keondre Swoopes and corner Starling Thomas picked off four passes and broke up 14. Will Boler earned All-Conference USA honors. Antonio Moultre left for Miami.
