Vegas sportsbooks lost $6.5 million on the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup

For The Win

Vegas sportsbooks took one in the chin after the Vegas Golden Knights won the 2023 Stanley Cup over the Florida Panthers.

Betting reporter Ben Fawkes shared on Friday that sportsbooks lost a whopping $6.5 million after the Golden Knights claimed Lord Stanley’s Cup in June.

Overall, sportsbooks won just $9.5 million this past June, which Fawkes said is down 60-percent from last year. The win percent was reportedly just 1.98-percent, which is pretty low.

It seems like Vegas had to take the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup win with a bittersweet taste. It’s great for the hometown team to win, but losing that much money has to hurt.

While Vegas sportsbooks historically rebound from a bad month, they’ll undoubtedly hoping that the impending football season will go much better for them than the summer has so far.

At the very least, they’re definitely keeping fingers crossed that next year’s Stanley Cup won’t be as brutal as it was this year.
