NASCAR rumbles on down to Indianapolis Motor Speedway (The Brickyard) for the 24th race of the 2023 season. This week sees the drivers turning left and right on the 14-turn, 2.439 mile course. The race distance totals 200 miles (82 laps). Could Chris Buescher do the unthinkable and win for a third time in a row?

This weekend’s race is one week after the FireKeepers Casino 400 where Chris Buescher pulled a Kevin Harvick and swept both Richmond and Michigan.

So, the reader expected to hear about Hendrick Motorsports Racing here. While the Hendrick cars have been fast here, they were more prevalent in the 2021 race until the curbing and the craziness ensued. That was when A.J. Allmendinger roared back from seventh to win. Last year, Tyler Reddick (now with Toyota – 23XI Racing) continued his growing mastery of road courses with a pretty easy victory.

So, Caesars Sportsbook has very few major changes this week. It is interesting that only William Byron and Kyle Larson are in the playoffs for Hendrick. Can Chase Elliott find his “road mojo”? Elliott needs to win one of the next two races to make the playoff. That added urgency could cause more caution flags than usual at Indianapolis. Can Toyota Really Do It This Week?

NASCAR Cup Series odds come in with five drivers again at +750 or better. Martin Truex Jr. still tops the favorites at +400. After that, Denny Hamlin is right behind Truex Jr. on Caesars but Larson remains second on DraftKings. Joey Logano lurks at +1200 while Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell are not too far behind.

Martin Truex Jr. got foiled by aerodynamics on Monday. Chris Buescher played it off well and used another Ford to keep Truex Jr. off of him. That little bit of looseness on the 19 car gave Buescher another win. Now, that won’t happen at the Brickyard. Expect a whole lot of bumping. Can the Toyota cars avoid pit mistakes? Last week, one cost Tyler Reddick a top finish when a loose lug nut caused mayhem.

Saturday qualifying begins at 12:35 pm ET. Expect good track conditions this weekend but watch the weather anyway. Temperatures are expected to be around 85 with a mix of sun and clouds.

So, because last week’s race got postponed to Monday due to rain, keep an eye out again for the weather. Monday races have become a little too frequent this year along with rain delays.

Can Toyota turn the tables or does Chevy go 3-for-3 at Indy?

Practice and qualifying on Saturday will tell us a bit more and make some prop bets clearer as well. Early numbers are a pleasant surprise at the least. Does Shane Van Gisbergen factor into Indy like he did in Chicago where he won? That’s the big wildcard.
