Vermont online sports betting launch projected before NFL Playoffs: Progress and timeline

Vermont is diligently preparing to introduce online sports betting in anticipation of the NFL playoffs. Leading the way is the Department of Liquor and Lottery (DLL). Governor Phil Scott recently signed the VT sports betting law, clearing the path for up to six online sportsbooks to operate within the state.

Commissioner Wendy Knight of the DLL is optimistic about a January launch, which would be an ambitious undertaking for Vermont’s inaugural foray into the realm of gambling. While other states typically took around 17 months to launch after legalization, Vermont aims to leverage the lessons learned from its counterparts and expedite the process.

The DLL is actively making preparations for the launch. The regulator’s upcoming meeting on July 12 will review the first proposed enhanced procedures. Subsequently, in mid-July, requests for proposals will be released, allowing potential bidders to examine and submit their proposals. The DLL intends to finalize contracts by December in order to meet the targeted January launch.
