Virginia Tech News: Wake Forest odds, women's time vs. Iowa announced

We are closing in on two days before Virginia Tech’s Homecoming this upcoming weekend when the Hokies host Wake Forest. In the latest version of Virginia Tech News, we’ll look at the football game, the count to the college basketball is under a month and more.

Virginia Tech is now a favorite to beat Wake Forest

When the lines came out on Sunday for the Week 7 football games, the Hokies opened as a slight underdog against Wake Forest. Slowly, the line has shifted, and depending on which board you look at, Tech is now a 1-point favorite according to DraftKings.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise with money going on Virginia Tech as they will play in front of a sold-out crowd at Lane Stadium and have looked better the last couple of weeks. Yes, take away the first quarter against Florida State and they hung around with the then-fifth-ranked team in the country. They need to avoid a slow start and have a start like they did two weeks ago against Pittsburgh.

College basketball season is just 25 days away, start time vs. Iowa announced

Don’t look now, but the college basketball season is just 25 days away on Nov. 6. Virginia Tech will host a doubleheader that night with the women tipping off against High Point at 5 p.m., followed by the men against Coppin State at 8.

After the season opener, the women will have a quick turnaround as they will play Iowa, on Nov. 9 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte in a big matchup of two teams that reached the Final Four last March. ESPN2 will carry the game and recently announced an 8 p.m. start.

The two teams did not meet each other in Dallas last spring as the Hokies lost in the semifinals to LSU, who went on to beat Iowa in the Championship game. This is a very big early-season test for the Hokies. Three weeks after this game, Virginia Tech will travel to Baton Rogue, La. to play LSU in a rematch as part of the inaugural SEC/ACC Challenge on Nov. 29.
