The Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This marks the finale in a three-game series. The Rockies powered out a high-scoring win in the opener, then on Tuesday Washington evened it up with a comeback victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies’ bats were working overtime in the Monday opener of this series, collecting 16 hits in a 10-6 win. Both Ezequiel Tovar and Randal Grichuk had three hits, while Alan Trejo had four. In game two Colorado blew a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth and lost 6-5. Elias Diaz managed three hits with two RBI in the defeat, and Michael Toglia had a nice night on two hits, one run and one RBI.

In the starter slot for the Rockies on Wednesday it’ll be Peter Lambert. In 16 games (two starts) Lambert is 2-1 with a 5.49 ERA and 39 Ks in 39.1 innings. Lambert went 5.0 innings with no earned runs in a win over the Marlins in his last start.

Washington Nationals

Over on the Nationals’ side, they took a long time to get going at the plate Monday and couldn’t dig out of the big hole. Jeimer Candelario bagged a homer, three RBI and two runs during the loss. On Tuesday Washington’s Joey Menesses walked away with three, hits, two runs, three RBI and a homer in the wild comeback win. Stone Garrett launched a solo homer as well.

Jake Irvin will take the starting role for the Nationals on Wednesday. In 14 starts so far Irvin is 3-5 with a 4.87 ERA and 53 Ks in 68.1 innings. Irvin is coming off a win over the Giants on July 21 with three earned in 6.2 innings.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m staying with the Rockies. Lambert closed out June with a rough appearance (1.0 innings; five earned) versus the Dodgers but he’s been solid in his two July outings. Over his last 8.0 frames Lambert has zero earned, five hits and two walks to his credit. If he can get five frames or so here Colorado should be looking good. On Tuesday the Rockies had a rough night from the pen: four earned, four hits and two walks in just 2.0 frames. Colorado is doing great offensively right now with 15 combined runs over two games, but they’ve also given up 12 runs. The pitching has to be better in the finale, but I still like the Rockies.
