Wednesday MLB Betting Picks

Grant and Tanner are reunited on Wednesday’s show, and they waste no time getting right into the picks. Tanner starts it off by taking the Toronto Blue Jays’ moneyline against the Cleveland Guardians and gives several reasons for the pick. One of the foremost is that Kevin Gausman is on the mound, and not only is he one of the best pitchers in the league, but he’s also on a nice run.

The Guardians will start Logan Allen who, despite having a 3.65 ERA, has been trending in the wrong direction as of late and is flat-out not as talented of a pitcher as Gausman is. Tanners also believes the Blue Jays’ offense that was shut out yesterday will bounce back and help secure a win.

Grant took it a step further and went with the Blue Jays -1.5 for even more value. One of his favorite points was that the Blue Jays are third in scoring on the road, while the Guardians are second-worst in scoring at home over the course of the season.

Tuesday’s loss may have snapped a four-game win streak for Toronto, but the Guardians are averaging just 1.8 runs per game across their last 11 outings. Grant finds it hard to justify betting on them in any capacity with the way they’re swinging their bats, so the runline pick is just as much about fading the Guardians as it is backing the Blue Jays.

Tanner’s second pick is the Los Angeles Dodgers’ moneyline against the Arizona Diamondbacks. What the Dodgers’ Bobby Miller lacks in cache in a pitching matchup against Merrill Kelly of the D-Backs, the offense more than makes up for. The Dodgers are scoring 6.5 runs per game since the All-Star break while the Diamondbacks are stuck at 3.7 and have not scored more than four runs in 12 games.Grant loves Tanner’s pick here, especially with how productive the Dodgers’ bullpen has been in recent months. Since June 1, the Dodgers are top 10 in reliever ERA, while the D-Backs are fourth-worst during the same span. The Dodgers have also won seven of their last eight, whereas Arizona has lost seven straight.

Grant’s second pick is the under of nine runs between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. The Cubs’ offense—which leads the league in post-All-Star scoring—has not looked the same in this series so far, scoring five runs in two games. The Mets have not been any better and are 26th in scoring since the intermission.

Mets starter David Peterson has a 5.65 ERA for the season, but that drops to 2.67 at home. The Cubs’ bullpen is also top-five in ERA over the past couple of months, while their offense is noticeably worse on the road.

Tanner’s final pick is the over of nine runs in the Baltimore Orioles-Houston Astros matchup. Yesterday’s game soared over (just like Kyle Tucker’s game-winning grand slam in the ninth inning soared over the outfield wall), and he thinks the pitching matchup between Cristian Javier and Jack Flaherty will help get it there again.

Grant’s third pick also comes from this game but is on the Orioles’ moneyline. Despite Javier starting the season well, he posted a 6.86 ERA last month and a 5.79 the month before—Flaherty, meanwhile, had a rough start to the season but had a nice debut with the Orioles last week and should be even more motivated now that he’s on a World Series contender.

The Orioles have won seven of their last nine even with Tuesday’s loss and are 35-22 at home. Their bullpen is also playing better than the Astros’, and they are excellent with runners in scoring position. Grant thinks they will send a message to the rest of the American League with a big win after a gut-wrenching loss the day before.
