West Ham vs Arsenal prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Carabao Cup 4th round match

The Sporting News

Arsenal continue their push on multiple fronts this season as they contest an all-Premier League battle in the Carabao Cup fourth round against cross-city opponents West Ham.

Over the past seven seasons, the Gunners have reached at least the quarterfinals of this competition in every year but one, falling at this stage in 2019/20 to Liverpool on the road.

That stretch includes the 2017/18 year, in which Arsenal last met West Ham in cup competition, winning 1-0 at home in the quarterfinals en route to an appearance in the final.

Arsenal will be hoping for a bit of revenge here, as these two clubs drew 2-2 in Premier League action last time they met, in a match that helped Manchester City secure the league crown in a late-season push.

West Ham vs Arsenal prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (+255)
  • Score prediction: West Ham 2-2 Arsenal

Arsenal have historically struggled on the road at West Ham, dropping points in this fixture in five of their last eight visits to West Ham in all competitions including last year's draw.

That, plus the notion that Mikel Arteta may rotate his squad significantly, gives West Ham a bit of an edge in this match to pick up a result.

West Ham vs Arsenal: best bet

When West Ham pick up a result against Arsenal in recent years, it usually comes via a high-scoring match, picking up 2-2, 3-3, and 3-3 draws all since 2016.

The Hammers have been porous at the back in the league this season, and while it seems they've put a stopper in their defensive sieve from earlier in the season, it will be tough to stop an Arsenal side packed with attacking talent. They'll have to find goals to keep up.

West Ham vs Arsenal prop bet

  • Pick: Eddie Nketiah anytime goal scorer
  • Odds: +210 (DraftKings)

Obviously, in any cup match featuring a top Premier League team, it's wise to wait until lineups are announced to place specific player bets – given Arteta is likely to rotate his squad in any number of ways. Yet with Gabriel Jesus injured, he will likely keep Eddie Nketiah in the side up front.

These are the matches in which Nketiah has thrived in as a backup to Jesus over the past two seasons. In the 2021/22 campaign, Nketiah scored five goals in five EFL Cup matches, and last year he bagged a goal in his only EFL Cup appearance.

The 24-year-old has been excellent this year, bagging five goals on just 3.40 xG in Premier League action, proving he is an extremely capable understudy to the main Arsenal striker. Regardless of who Arteta deploys in support, there should be plenty of talent around Nketiah to provide him service, and against a defensively leaky West Ham, there will be chances.
