Hammers to build momentum

West Ham secured a morale-boosting European win in midweek and will hope to translate that into Premier League points when they play host to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Lucas Paqueta scored the only goal in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Olympiacos and David Moyes’s men will now be looking to grab a first domestic top-flight victory since September.

Forest were impressive 2-0 victors at home to Aston Villa last weekend, but have struggled away from the City Ground this season.

They have taken just four points of the 18 available and could be in for another frustrating afternoon on the road.

Recent results have threatened to derail West Ham’s fine start to the campaign, but will be buoyed by beating Olympiacos, their second consecutive home victory in all competitions after beating Arsenal 3-1 in the EFL Cup on the first day of this month.

After failing to win their previous four in the Premier League, they need to reignite their season and are a point and a place above Forest in the standings.

Steve Cooper’s side were impressive in last Sunday’s success against Villa, but were poor on their travels last season and have endured similar struggles this time around, with a win over Chelsea and a draw at Crystal Palace the only points they have managed.

They lost last term’s meeting at the London Stadium 4-0 – and after failing to score in their past three away games, a win with a first league clean sheet since September could beckon for the hosts.

West Ham vs Nottingham Forest tip 1: West Ham to win to nil @ 23/10 with Paddy Power

Kudus a candidate to score

Mohammed Kudus has impressed since signing for the Hammers from Ajax and already seems to have established himself in Moyes’s plans.

The 23-year-old scored in the recent EFL Cup victory over Arsenal and also netted a spectacular volley in last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Brentford.

Kudus dovetails nicely with fellow forward Jarrod Bowen and their combination has provided additional fluidity to their team’s front line.

The Ghanaian plays with real intelligence, always managing to find space, and with four of his five goals for the club coming at home he looks a fine candidate to grab another for his side on Sunday.

Mangala and Paqueta to be in the mix

A scrap could ensue in the middle of the park, so fouls are something to look out for. Forest’s Orel Mangala has committed 14 in the league this season, picking up four yellow cards in the process.

That is a caution less than Paqueta, who missed the defeat at Brentford through suspension and has conceded 20 fouls already this term, so backing both to commit two or more infringements could be something to back.

James Ward-Prowse to provide an assist is also worth considering as an addition to any bet builders. The midfielder takes most of West Ham’s set pieces, providing him extra opportunities to make that final pass, and has recorded four assists already this season in the league. He laid on Paqueta’s goal on Thursday.

Ward-Prowse netted in Southampton’s 4-3 loss at the City Ground last season, a defeat in which he also provided an assist.

West Ham vs Nottingham Forest tip 3: Bet builder – Lucas Paqueta and Orel Mangala to commit two or more fouls each and James Ward-Prowse to provide an assist @ 11/1 with Paddy Power
