This season is the third successive campaign these two foes have faced each other in Champions League action, with mixed results on either side as part of their eventual success in the competition.

Thomas Tuchel's Blues beat Zinedine Zidane's Madrid side in the 2020/21 Champions League semifinals thanks to a 2-0 second-leg win at Stamford Bridge, before going on to beat Manchester City in the final.
