Wimbledon Day 4 Men’s Predictions Including Murray vs Tsitsipas

There has been plenty of exciting tennis so far at Wimbledon, in between the rain at least, and there should be more entertainment for the fans on day four. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Daniil Medvedev vs Adrian Mannarino, Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexandre Muller and Taylor Fritz vs Mikael Ymer. But who will advance?

Wimbledon Day 4 Predictions

Andy Murray vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Yesh: This is, without question, the biggest match of the day. Andy Murray looks in supreme form, while Stefanos Tsitsipas struggled against Dominic Thiem. No one knows how long Murray’s body can last nowadays, but he should be favoured here.

Prediction: Murray in 4

Damian: Don’t think this is a particularly good matchup for Murray as pressuring the Tsitsipas backhand corner requires him to step out of his comfort zone a bit. He’ll have a major advantage in any patterns involving the slice though and the Greek looks kinda likely to shank enough returns and backhands right now to give him a small helping hand.

Prediction: Murray in 5

Jakub: The blockbuster match of the day on the men’s side for sure, a rematch of a 2021 US Open first round where controversy over Tsitsipas’ bathroom break abounded. Murray has evened the head-to-head since with a straight-set win in Stuttgart last year and enters with a significant rest advantage over Tsitsipas this time. The 36-year-old dropped just four games in his Tuesday win over Ryan Peniston while the Greek still had to play three and a half sets of grueling tennis against Dominic Thiem, clinching it 10-8 in the fifth set tiebreak. Tsitsipas’ poor form coming in and reduced rest gives Murray a brilliant opportunity to take out the high seed in his section and open up the draw for a run.

Prediction: Murray in 4

Frances Tiafoe vs Dominic Stricker

Yesh: Frances Tiafoe is bringing his best in the biggest events nowadays, and it shows. Dominic Stricker has a real future at the top level of this sport, but Tiafoe is the present.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 4

Damian: This should be a fun one. Stricker pulled off a great win in round one, again showing how much his tennis IQ has improved this year. Tiafoe was clinical in a popcorn matchup against Wu. This will be fun to watch too and while the underdog has the peak level to be competitive here, it’s hard to argue against Tiafoe’s serve and confidence right now.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 4

Jakub: No. 10 Tiafoe took out Wu Yibing in straight sets as his opponent struggled with heart issues at points. After a strong qualifying campaign, Stricker managed to overcome Alexei Popyrin 7-5 in the fifth. The Swiss has very high potential on grass but I just see Tiafoe meeting the moment better here and coming out on top.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 4

Harold Mayot vs Guido Pella

Yesh: Harold Mayot is now 10-0 in sets in four matches, including qualifying, and he looks great on the grass. He’ll probably win another in straight sets, too.

Prediction: Mayot in 3

Damian: Mayot’s not really among the strongest of qualifiers, but he’s still yet to drop a set in four matches. He might have the edge here again, even if most of that comes from the physicality. Pella had some weaker moments fitness-wise against Coric already and might be struggling on the next day.

Prediction: Mayot in 5

Jakub: Both had their matches interrupted up a set and a break on Monday but while Mayot managed to close out Benjamin Bonzi in straights, Pella went five with Borna Coric. The Frenchman is yet to lose a set on grass in his pro career, making his debut in Roehampton last week. His opponents have not been the toughest though and I expect the former quarterfinalist Pella to put an end to his run here.

Prediction: Pella in 4
