Wolves Premier League Relegation Odds: 5/2 After Liverpool Loss

Wolves are bracing for relegation to the Championship after starting the Premier League season with four losses from five, the latest at the hands of Liverpool.

Wolves stunned the visitors as Hee-Chan Hwang opened the scoring seven minutes in thanks to a fabulous assist from Pedro Neto – his fourth of the season, which leads the English top-flight.

The hosts headed into the interval with a one goal lead before Cody Gakpo found himself on the end of a cross from Mohamed Salah to tap home and level the scores after 55 minutes.

Andy Robertson gave the Reds a deserved lead with five minutes to play in normal time and the three points were sealed six minutes later when Harvey Elliott’s effort deflected off Hugo Bueno and went in off the post.

Liverpool now top the Premier League table for the first time in 16 months following the early kick-off win but Manchester City have the opportunity to regain the lead when they face West Ham later today.

Wolves sit two points clear of the relegation zone on three points, with their only victory coming against Everton in gameweek three – losing to Manchester United, Brighton and Crystal Palace in their other outings.

Wolves successfully battled relegation in the Premier League for two seasons before Mick McCarthy was sacked during the 2011/12 season in which the club dropped back down to the Championship.

They also spent a brief period in League One in 2013/14 for a single season before going straight back up to the second tier in 2014/15 and later earning promotion back to the top-flight in 2017/18.

After a dismal summer transfer window in which Wolves were heavily restrained by Financial Fair Play and saw the departures of Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore, Diego Costa, Joao Moutinho, Goncalo Guedes, Matheus Nunes and Daniel Podence without proper strengthening, the writing could be on the wall.
