5 Penn State players rank among nation’s top-10 at their positions; the latest on Davone Townley, and more

Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature a complete list of national rankings from Pro Football Focus and more on Davone Townley’s move inside from defensive end.

In all, five Penn State players rank among the top in the nation in Pro Football Focus rankings, highlighted by Olu Fashanu as the No. 4 returning offensive tackle in the country, as noted by Brad Wakai for Nittany Lions Wire. Running back Nick Singleton (No. 7), Edge defender Chop Robinson (No. 3), cornerback Kalen King (No. 2) and linebacker Abdul Carter (No. 8) are all billed by PFF as impact players at their respective positions.

Daniel Gallen from Lions247 has more on the progress being made by Townley, a former four-star recruit who briefly entered the NCAA transfer portal, in his move inside from defensive end to tackle. Teammate D’von Ellies said Townley is improving by “leaps and bounds” as he looks to make his big 6-foot-7 frame work at his new position. If all goes well, Penn State can offer Townley more opportunities at a reloading position.
