BCB After Dark: Come to the Chicago Cubs, Dansby Swanson

Justin Steele won the vote between Marcus Stroman and Jameson Taillon for the Chicago Cubs starting pitcher. Gilda won over The Killers in the BCB Winter Noir Classic. The Modern Jazz Quartet recorded the soundtrack for Odds Against Tomorrow. The Quartets played jazz songs from 1955 to 1974 and again from 1981 to 1993. They recorded songs with nightclub scenes in them. It's a Christmas song. There's also a live performance of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by the Modern jazz Quartett. This is a 1957 recording. In the game, Justin Steele beat Marcus. Stromo by a margin of 36 percent to 35 percent.

Sweet Smell of Success is a classic film starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Susan Harrison. Lancaster plays J.J. Hunsecker, a manipulative and despicable gossip columnist. Curtis plays Sidney Falco, an equally slimy character. The screenplay by Clifford Odets and Ernest Lehman crackles.

Odds Against Tomorrow is a heist film with a rather unsubtle message about racism. The cast is great, including Harry Belafonte, Robert Ryan, Shelley Winters and Ed Begley. Next up in BCB Winter Noir Classic is The Big Heat (1953), directed by Fritz Lang and starring Glenn Ford, Jocelyn Brando and Gloria Grahame. Next week BCb will take on The Set-Up (1950) starring RobertRyan and Audrey Totter. They will discuss the Chicago Cubs and Dansby Swanson. Everyone agrees that the team needs an impact player. Swanson is not an all-around good player, but he's good at his position.

The Chicago Cubs are interested in signing Dansby Swanson. He got married over the weekend. His wife, Mallory Pugh, plays for the Chicago Red Stars. The Dodgers are not a top candidate for Swanson, but they are rumored to be interested. There are still several teams interested, including the Braves. Jesse Rogers thinks there's a 50% chance the Cubs will sign Swanson today. He also said that if Swanson had to pick today, he'd probably pick the Cubbies. However, Swanson is on his honeymoon and doesn't have to choose today as he doesn’t have a contract.
