Los Angeles Chargers 2023 season betting preview: Super Bowl odds, win total pick

The Los Angeles Chargers and their newly-extended quarterback Justin Herbert are on a mission in the 2023 season to make up for a disappointing playoff finish in the 2022 campaign. 

Los Angeles plays in a very tough division, but the team is loaded with young and veteran talent on both sides of the ball from Joey Bosa to Austin Ekeler to Derwin James and Keenan Allen. 

Oddsmakers are bullish on a few of the Chargers futures odds, but how should we proceed wagering on them prior to the start of the 2023 campaign?

The Chargers added a former All-Pro in Kendricks to beef up their defense, and they gave Herbert even more help on the outside with Johnston. 

Los Angeles has the talent and weapons to be one of the best teams in the NFL this season. 

Losing Tranquill to a division rival in the Kansas City Chiefs is tough, but the Chargers were able to replace him with Kendricks, so hopefully it turns out to be a wash at that position. 

The Chargers are +2500 to win the Super Bowl this season, and that’s likely because they aren’t favored to win their division. Los Angeles has a ton of talent, but if it finishes behind the Super Bowl favorites – the Kansas City Chiefs – the best it can get in the playoffs is a wild card spot. 

Plus, Los Angeles has struggled in the playoffs in the past, including last season’s debacle against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is a team I wouldn’t mind waiting on before committing to a Super Bowl future. 

The Chargers have won 10 or more games just two times since the 2010 season, but they’re favored to do that in the 2023 campaign. 

As long as Herbert stays healthy, this team has a good mix of young and veteran talent that should be enough to earn a playoff spot and push double-digit wins. 

The Chargers have the seventh best odds to win the AFC, which is absolutely loaded in the 2023 season. 

It’s going to be tough to win the conference from a wild card spot, but a strong start to the season (and a slow start for KC) could make the Chargers a valuable bet here. For now, it’s more of a dart throw with so many good teams expected to fight for playoff positioning. 

Yes, the Chargers are second in the odds to win the division, but oddsmakers don’t have much faith. At +340 (Bet $10 to win $34), the Chargers have an implied probability of just 22.73 percent to steal the division crown from Kansas City. 

Still, they are in the driver’s seat to the be the No. 2 team in the division ,which should be good enough to make the playoffs.  

The Chargers are -115 to make the playoffs (implied probability of 53.49 percent), but I’d be surprised if they missed. The team has elite quarterback play and a great pass rush led by Joey Bosa. 

With playmakers like Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and Johnston, they should keep up with the explosive offenses in the AFC. This is a solid price to get Los Angeles before the season. 

Justin Herbert is due for a bounce-back season in the 2023 campaign. Herbert still played well in 2022, but a rib injury certainly limited his ability at times, and he finished with a career-low 25 touchdown passes. 

In his first two NFL seasons, Herbert tossed 31 and 38 scores, and he’ll actually have a healthy offense in 2023. Don’t forget, Keenan Allen missed a ton of the 2022 season after being injured in Week 1. 

With Johnston also in the fold, Herbert is loaded with weapons and should push the 30-touchdown mark for the third time in four seasons.
