2023 MLB awards odds & predictions: MVP, Cy Young & Rookie of the Year

Fontana Herald News

The 2023 MLB season is inching closer and closer as the first pitch is 16 days away.

Last year, Aaron Judge took home his first American League MVP trophy after a historic season that included hitting 62 home runs. The Yankees captain is the second odds-on-favorite at Tipico Sportsbook to repeat at 5/1 (+500) to win back-to-back MVPs.

Here are my picks to win MVP, CY Young and Rookie of the Year in the AL this season with odds powered by Tipico Sportsbook.

AL MVP: Julio Rodriguez (+900)

In order to win MVP, you need someone who can do it all at and Rodriguez showed flashes of that during his rookie season. The 22-year-old star was red hot in May as he hit .309 and finished the month with seven home runs, 16 runs batted in and five stolen bases. Rodriguez ended the regular season strong as he slashed .383/.456/.733 in the month of September, leading the Seattle Mariners to their first playoff appearance in 21 years.

The 2022 ROY winner hits for both average and power plus figures to be one of the league leaders in steals after he swiped 25 bases last season.

I'm wagering on the Mariners having a great season that ends with Rodriguez winning MVP at 9/1 (+900).

AL CY Young: Shane Bieber (+1200)

While former Mets ace and newest member of the Texas Rangers Jacob DeGrom is the favorite at +600 (6/1), I'm going slightly down the board with Bieber here.

The 27-year-old ended his 2022 campaign with a 2.88 ERA and racked up 13 wins, his most since 2019. Bieber won the CY Young Award in the COVID-shortened 2020 season where he won eight of 12 starts and posted a career-best ERA (1.63) and WHIP (0.87).

The Guardians ace will need to be closer to his 2019 form when he finished with the third most strikeouts in baseball (259). Bieber has been one of the most consistent pitchers in MLB since making his debut in 2018 as he compiled a record of 54-26 in 111 career starts.

Bet on Bieber to take home his second CY Young award in four years.

AL ROY: Anthony Volpe (+1000)

One of the biggest breakout rookies in spring training has been Volpe. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .320 with a staggering 1.113 OPS through nine games.

There's no denying Volpe's ability but his biggest issue is will he make the Opening Day roster? The Watchung native is buried on the team's infield depth chart and has played in only 22 games at the Triple-A level.

However, between the Yankees' injury bug this spring and the talent he's displayed so far, I believe Volpe will insert himself in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

Wager on the Yankees' top prospect to join a list of Derek Jeter and Aaron Judge as the team's ROY winners since 1996.
