Golf betting is in full swing as the PGA heads to California after a couple stops in Hawaii to kick off the season. It’s a loaded field, with Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Xander Schauffele leading the way on the odds board. Here are our favorite 2024 American Express picks and props for La Quinta, which tees off Thursday.

2024 American Express odds, props, long shots and best bets

Last year’s winner - Jon Rahm - won’t be in action this week to defend his title after his recent defection to LIV. But there’s still a star-studded field, including the planet’s best player - Scottie Scheffler.

Let’s take a look at our 2024 American Express best bets, long shots, and props:

2024 American Express PGA best bets: Xander Schauffele Top 5 (+270 or better)

California native Xander Schauffele will be on his own turf as he looks to put in another strong performance to kick off the 2024 PGA campaign. Schauffele is coming off a T10 at The Sentry, after firing a -24.

The 30-year-old is currently 5th in the OWGR, coming off a year where he had seven top-5 finishes. Last year at the American Express, Schauffele finished T3, and went bogey-free for the final two rounds. We predict another strong performance this week.

2024 American Express golf props: Sungjae Im Over 6.5 birdies Round 1 (+125 or better)

We’re playing the hot hand with this bet and feel great about the plus-money odds. While the sample size is small with just four rounds, Sungjae Im is the PGA Tour leader in birdie average at 8.5 per round.

He’s already racked up 34 of them, including an impressive 11 in his final round at The Sentry. He’s hit the over on this number in three of four rounds this year, and had six in the other.

PGA American Express long shot bets: Si Woo Kim outright winner (+5500 or better)

Si Woo Kim finished T25 at The Sentry and really seemed to find his stroke in the final round (66). The South Korean has won four times on Tour in his young career, and most importantly, he’s won The American Express (2021).

The books are offering some bloated odds for someone just a few years removed from a win. The 28-year-old finished T22 last year here, and also notched a win at The Sony Open, which was one of his five top-5 finishes.

American Express golf props: Tony Finau to beat Sam Burns (-105 or better)

Both of these players are coming off strong seasons with similar statistical performances. Tony Finau had two wins to Sam Burns’ one last season, but both golfers had 13 top-25 finishes earning them each a top-20 spot in the FedExCup rankings.

Last week at The Sentry, Finau finished T38 and Burns landed at T33. Both had solid finishes at last year’s American Express (Finau T16, Burns T11). We’ll take the better odds between these two evenly matched players.
