2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational: Tournament History & Trends

The Arnold Palmer Invitational boasts a rich history dating back to 1966 when it debuted as the Florida Citrus Open Invitational. It was originally played at the Rio Pinar Country Club before moving to the Bay Hill Club & Lodge which became its new permanent home when it was purchased by Arnold Palmer in 1974. Then in 2007, the tournament officially became the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

One of the tournament’s calling cards is the big names it attracts evidenced by the list of past winners. Tiger Woods, seen most often on that list, has played here 18 times during his outstanding career and holds an impressive eight victories which is the most in tournament history. Arnold Palmer himself secured a win in 1971, over three and a half decades before he became the namesake. And other superstars like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson have all been crowned champions of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Despite the field always including the world’s best players, scoring well at Bay Hill has been difficult. Two of the last four winners here did so while shooting 5-under or worse. And only one victor over the last seven Arnold Palmer Invitational tournaments surpassed a score of 12-under for the weekend. In addition to every shot being magnified, the pressure will be on as each of the last four and eight of the last ten winners did so by just one stroke.

So grab your Arnold Palmer beverage and get ready for some amazing and extremely competitive golf from Bay Hill Club and Lodge. Let’s see the Arnold Palmer Invitational odds and make some picks.

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational Odds

Arnold Palmer Invitational Odds Favorites: Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy

Both of these guys enter the weekend still looking for their first PGA win of the year and this may be the event to get it. They’ve both played really well at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in the past. Scheffler won the event back in 2022 and finished T4 last year, and McIlroy won the 2018 tournament and finished T10 or better in six of his last seven appearances at Bay Hill.

Scheffler hasn’t played since posting a T10 finish at the Genesis Open a few weeks back. Meanwhile, Rory is coming off another disappointing weekend, finishing T21 as the Cognizant Classic favorite. This will be the norm for most tournaments, but paying up for players who haven’t exactly been in top form is risky.

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational Odds: Best Bets

Check out who the experts are betting on this week from Bay Hill Club & Lodge with some Best Bets from the guys at Betsperts Golf.

Will Zalatoris Top 20 +105 (DraftKings)

Zalatoris ranks as the best player in this field over the past three years on courses similar to Bay Hill with difficult scoring conditions. He is elite in some of the most important metrics this week including Total Driving and SG: Approach from 200+ yards. He also thrives in firm and fast conditions and on courses with a “high rough penalty”. – Ron Kloss

Keegan Bradley Top 30 -120 (BetRivers)

Keegan Bradley has made the cut here in 11 straight starts, finishing T11 or better in three straight years. He loves Florida golf and ranks second in the field in “SG: Florida” over the past 50 rounds he has played. His high ball flight helps him hold this firm and fast Bermuda greens, especially from 200+ yards out, where he ranks seventh in fairway proximity and fourth in proximity from the rough.

He’s gained strokes on approach in 12 consecutive measured events, and he’s gained strokes putting in each of his past three starts at Bay Hill. I backed him to win on Monday morning at 90/1, a criminal price in this 69-man field, but I love targeting him in the finishing position market this week. – Ryan Noonan

Max Homa Top 20 +105 (DraftKings)

I’m betting him outright as well, but love this price in a smaller field event. The narrative around him not playing as well outside of the West Coast is starting to take on some water, and he had a very nice showing at the API/Players last season with 14th and 6th place finishes despite not even putting that well. I think he can repeat those sorts of results, again on the strength of his irons and approach game and if his Bermuda putting continues to improve, I think he can win. – Andy Molitor
