2024 LIV Golf Picks: LIV Golf Tour Hong Kong Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

After hitting on the first two LIV events of the 2024 season, we fell flat last week with our Jeddah picks. The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at Hong Kong Golf Club, located in Fanling, Hong Kong. This will be the final LIV event for three weeks as players will be getting their form ready for The Masters. LIV Miami will be the week before Augusta, and then there will be another three-week break before Adelaide. It is no surprise that Jon Rahm is the favorite heading into Hong Kong, and the superstar is looking for his first-career LIV victory. Joaquin Niemann follows right behind Rahm on the odds board after claiming his second victory of the LIV season last week at Jeddah. Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best action this upcoming weekend at Hong Kong below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets

Hong Kong Golf Club is set to play as a 6,710-yard par 70 this week for the LIV Circuit. This course is much shorter than the typical LIV venues that players experience throughout the season. However, there still presents many challenges with this short, tight track. Many holes force players to layup off the tee due to hazards or angles to the green. Players will need to find the fairway consistently to win. The Hong Kong Open typically sees the winner with a score somewhere in the mid to high teens. The wind condition will be one factor to look out for this weekend. Some winds are expected to reach 20mph and some holes are elevated, which will be more exposed to the windy conditions.

Talor Gooch +1200

When I think about the course setup for this week, Gooch fits the mold that I am looking for in a winner. You can consistently count on him to hit fairways and bring a strong iron and putter. When players get to a course that eliminates the driver, Gooch has the tangible skills to win an event like this. So far in 2024, he ranks inside the top-five in fairways hit and putting, while also ranking inside the top-15 in green in regulation percentage. Gooch has finished inside the top-15 in all three LIV events this season, including a T6 last week in Jeddah. He finished runner-up in Vegas and should have won under the bright lights of the Strip if it was not for a bad two-hole stretch on that Sunday where he went bogey-double bogey. To further increase optimism, Gooch won three LIV Golf events last season, all of which were international events (Adelaide-Singapore-Andalucia). It would be fitting if his first win of 2024 came in Hong Kong.

Louis Oosthuizen +2200

Similar to Gooch, Louis is not the longest player off the tee, so coming to a course that takes the driver out of his hands is promising for the South African. His current form has been stellar, and I am really looking forward to watching Oosthuizen this weekend. He registered a T2 last week in Jeddah, 2nd at the International Series Oman, 50th in Las Vegas, T8 in Mayakoba, and won back-to-back events in South Africa. Two victories and two runner-up finishes in six starts is unparalleled compared to the rest of the field. The only guy on the LIV Circuit that has been this hot is Niemann. There could also be some added motivation for Louis as Niemann received a special exemption into next month’s Masters for his recent success. Many analysts believe the South African deserves a bid as well for his recent form. A victory this week in Hong Kong would apply pressure on the Augusta National Golf Club to invite Oosthuizen to this year’s Masters.

Patrick Reed +5000

I took Reed last week and I am not ready to give up on the former major champion. He has some of the most experience in the field on this golf course, having competed in the Hong Kong Open four times in the past nine years and registering a third-place finish. Reed has been in the world top-50 since 2014 and has top-10 finishes in all four majors. He earned five top-five finishes in the LIV Golf League in 2023. He ranks 14th in Fairway Hit Percentage, 17th in Scrambling, and 17th in Putting Average. I am willing to take a chance on Reed and his 50-1 price tag.
