AFL Rising Star Preview for 2022
The AFL Rising Star award has been won by some special players over the years. Melbourne’s Luke Jackson scooped the prize last year.
Nick Daicos is the favorite to be named the 2022 AFL Rising Star. Jason Horne-Francis is also a serious contender. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is third favorite. Logan McDonald, Finn Callaghan and Sam Darcy are also in the top five.
Nick Daicos is a prime candidate for AFL Rising Star for 2022. His father Peter played 250 games for Collingwood and kicked 549 goals. Daisio played for Oakleigh Chargers last year. He averaged 35.8 disposals per game and 2 goals per match.
Jason Horne-Francis was drafted by the Kangaroos at No. 1 pick in the 2018 AFL draft. Horner-Francios is an aggressive midfielder/forward with a lot of impressive attributes. He played in last season's SANFL prelim final and kicked three goals.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was drafted by the Bulldogs in 2020. He played his first AFL match in Round 17 and scored three goals in the 18th round. Uglagan has been rewarded with a contract extension through 2024. He is expected to get more game time this season.
Daicos and Horne-Francis are the clear betting favorites for the 2022 AFL Rising Star award. Ugle-Hagan is third favourite. Outside the top three, there are a host of hopeful outsiders.
Logan McDonald was drafted by Sydney as the No. 4 pick in the 2020 draft. He made his debut in 2021 and kicked nine goals in seven matches. McDonald is expected to be even better in 2022.
Finn Callaghan was drafted by the Giants at No. 3 in the 2021 AFL draft. He played for the Sandringham Lions in NAB League last season.
Josh Ward was drafted by Hawthorn with the first pick in the draft. Ward finished the 2021 NAB League season with second-best disposals-per-match ratio, averaging 30.2. Daicos finished atop the leaderboard.
Sam Darcy is a forward who is the son of Luke Darci. Luke played for the Bulldogs for over 200 games and kicked 183 goals. Sam Darricy will make his debut AFL season in 2022.
Ben Hobbs was drafted by the Bombers at 15.00. HobBS played in the NAB League last year. Daicos and Horne-Francis are the obvious frontrunners for the 2022 AFL Rising Star award.
