Another Wild Week Brings College Football Title Odds Into Focus
The latest College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night. Michigan beat Ohio State 45-23 on Saturday. The Wolverines are in the running for a spot in 2022. Clemson and LSU are out of the race.
Georgia is the favorite to win the 2022 college football championship. Georgia has a 61.5% chance to do it. LSU has three losses now. If LSU beats Georgia in the SEC championship, Georgia could get bumped. Georgia's five wins against Power 5 opponents over .500 are considered impressive.
Michigan is 16-point favorite against Purdue. The Wolverines could get a boost with the return of star running back Blake Corum. The +290 title odds imply a probability of 25.6%. It's fairly easy to envision Michigan winning its first-round playoff game against the likes of TCU, but a lot harder to imagine the Wolverine getting by the Bulldogs.
Ohio State is a 7.7% chance of winning the college football championship. TCU is in the deepest position with a conference championship game against Kansas State. USC is favored by three points over Utah in Pac-12 championship and is not a contender.
TCU is an undefeated team in the Big 12. The team has a 71% chance to make the playoffs and 9% of winning it all. TCU was picked to finish seventh in its conference in preseason media poll. The combined record of TCU’s FBS opponents this season is 66-66. Michigan”s opponents are a combined 72-73.
USC beat Notre Dame 38-27 at the Coliseum on Saturday night. Caleb Williams is a favorite to win the Heisman. The only team that beat USC was Utah, who beat them 43-42 on Oct. 15. Saturday's Pac 12 championship will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Alabama is +2500 to make the playoff field. The Crimson Tide have two losses and no berth in the conference championship game. If TCU loses, the committee might give the nod to one-loss Ohio State or one of the other teams.
Two-loss Tennessee is still in the playoff hunt. Clemson is a 7.5-point favorite in ACC Championship. The team that is 4-4 in conference play is South Carolina.
