Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago Cubs Prediction 9-15-23 MLB Picks

The Chicago Cubs and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Friday in MLB action from Chase Field. The Cubs are fresh off a series against the Rockies, losing two of three games. As for Arizona, they played the Mets in their last series. The Diamondbacks lost two of the first three in that set, then on Thursday Arizona fell in a blowout. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs managed to beat the Rockies 5-4 in their Monday opener, but then fell 6-4 in game two. The Wednesday rubber match was another defeat for Chicago, this time 7-3. Cody Bellinger, Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki each had one RBI in the loss, while both Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya each had two hits.

As starting pitcher for Friday’s game the Cubs will go with Justin Steele. This year over 27 starts Steele is 16-3 with a 2.49 ERA and 159 Ks in 159.0 innings. Steele is 4-0 with a 2.28 ERA over his last seven starts.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Over on the Arizona side, they beat the Mets 4-3 in their Monday opener, then fell 7-4 and 7-1 in the next two games. In the Thursday finale the Diamondbacks gave up five runs in the fifth inning alone during a rough 11-1 loss. Jake McCarthy had the lone RBI and Corbin Carroll plated the run.

In the starter slot for the Diamondbacks on Friday it’ll be Brandon Pfaadt. This year over 16 games (15 starts) Pfaadt is 1-8 with a 6.25 ERA. He’s got 72 Ks in 80.2 innings. Pfaadt is 1-3 with a 5.20 ERA over his last seven starts.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stick with the Cubs here. Chicago should be in good hands with Steele on the mound; he’s doing very well lately. Over his last three starts combined, Steele is 2-0 with 21.0 innings, one earned run, 14 hits and three walks during that time. Chicago has given up 17 runs over their last three games and Steele should help keep the scoreboard manageable. As for the Diamondbacks, on Thursday they couldn’t get much right at the plate and a couple of pitchers finished with ugly stat lines. That makes two or fewer runs in four of the last seven games for Arizona, and I don’t see them scoring much on Friday either.
