Arizona Reports $648M Sports Betting Handle for October

DraftKings secured its position as the leading online sportsbook in Arizona for October, driven by a $220.6 million mobile handle.

Arizona is continuing to grow as a legal sports betting market.

The Arizona Department of Gaming announced that sports bettors in the state wagered more than $648 million in October 2023 — a 4.8% increase compared to the same month last year.

The results, which include online and retail wagering, saw Arizona bettors pocket $591 million in winnings throughout October, with adjusted gross wagering receipts reaching roughly $55.5 million. Free bets and promotional deductions closed at around $22.5 million for the month.

The ADG reported that the state posted approximately $3.2 million in privilege fees in October.

DraftKings emerged as the top online sportsbook in Arizona for October behind a $220.6 million mobile handle, while the operator saw its retail volume finish at $759,399. FanDuel finished second in Arizona for mobile handle at $220.3 million, but the operator’s brick-and-mortar operations were No. 1 in the state in October due to a retail handle that closed at $2.1 million.

TwinSpires, which recently officially shuttered its online sportsbook in the U.S., had the lowest betting handle in Arizona for October with $77,099 in wagers. The Churchill Downs-owned sportsbook announced initial plans to discontinue its sports betting business last year.

Strong fantasy market 

Arizona has also established itself as a favorable market for daily fantasy sports operators.

The state saw nine fantasy operators collect $11.6 million in entry fees from Oct. 1 through Oct. 30. PrizePicks emerged as Arizona’s top fantasy operator behind $5.2 million in entry fees for the month.

DraftKings finished second for the month with entry fees that reached around $3.4 million. Fantasy operators collectively generated $1.9 billion in adjusted revenue in October.
