If last week’s main event on the PGA Tour, the Cognizant Classic, was too ‘easy’, then players can expect more of a challenge at Bay Hill.

The winning score at the Arnold Palmer Invitational has only reached ten-under-par once in the last four years, with Tyrrell Hatton and Scottie Scheffler reaching just four and five-under, respectively.

It was already an elevated event on the PGA Tour, so despite a re-brand to a ‘Signature Event’, a boosted purse and high-class field is a familiar sight.

And as only one of five invitational tournaments on the PGA Tour, a limited field has always been the case at Palmer’s place. This year, between 70 and 80 players will compete.

Preceding the Players Championship, the event will see golf’s elite sharpen their tools ahead of the PGA Tour’s marquee event at TPC Sawgrass.

Meanwhile, as part of the Open Qualifying Series, the leading player who is not already exempt, will qualify for the Open Championship in July
