Ashley Young closing in on new Premier League club after agreeing transfer following Aston Villa exit

FORMER Manchester United star Ashley Young has agreed to join Everton, according to reports.

The 38-year-old former England winger turned full-back is currently a free agent.

He returned to England to rejoin Aston Villa after a successful one-year stint in Italy with Inter Milan that ended in Serie A title success.

But his deal expired at Villa Park in June and he is searching for a new club.

Now BBC Sport “understands he held talks with Luton, while there was also interest from Saudi Arabia” - but it is Everton that he has agreed to sign with.

They add that Young will undergo a medical today prior to completing the transfer.

He is set to become Sean Dyche’s first signing at Everton and he will bring a wealth of experience with him.

Young has played over 700 career games for club and country.

And 32 of those came for Villa last term.

He previously spent nine years at Man Utd from 2011 after Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Old Trafford after his first stint at Villa Park.

Young won the Premier League with the Red Devils in 2013 and also added an FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup medal to his collection before heading to Italy in 2020.

Everton have already returned to pre-season training.

They travelled to Switzerland for a five-day training camp in the Alps on Monday and will take on second tier outfit Stade Nyonnais on Friday.
