While India seem to be the favorites for the 2023 ODI World Cup, there is no way anyone can count out the most successful cricket team of all time: Australia.

Australia's dominance in the ICC championships landscape is unmatched. They have won the ODI World Cup a record-breaking five times and could well add another trophy to their cabinet this year.

Here's a look at Australia's past record at the ICC ODI men's tournament, and an assessment of their chances for the upcoming tournament in India.

Australia Cricket World Cup record: How many times has Australia won the ODI WC?

Australia have won the ODI World Cup five times and remains the only country to win in all the regions that have hosted the tournament so far.

The Aussies have won under four different captains: Allan Border (1987), Steve Waugh (1999), Ricky Ponting (2003 and 2007) and Michael Clarke (2015).

Australia previous ODI World Cup performance by year

Of the 12 ODI World Cup editions to date, Australia have reached the finals seven times, been knocked out in the semis and quarters once each, and the group stage only three times.

Their consistency in reaching the business end of tournaments is what makes them such a force to be reckoned with.
