Bet365 Adds Iowa to Company’s American Sports Betting Portfolio

English betting conglomerate Bet365 Sportsbook is the latest operator to jump into an already crowded Iowa wagering market.

The operator, which is already live in Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey and Colorado, will partner with Casino Queen Marquette to gain a sports betting license in the Hawkeye State — with the company building out a retail sportsbook at the northeast Iowa facility.

The company’s Iowa sports betting launch will be its first partnership with a riverboat casino, as Casino Queen Marquette is a boat-based casino moored off the shores of the Mississippi River.

What Bet365 Adds to Iowa Sports Betting Market

The ability to add a worldwide online sports betting brand like Bet365 was a no-brainer for casino executives, such as Sean Bateman, who serves as the facility’s general manager.

Bateman said in a press release that the Marquette riverboat casino is thrilled to bring another well-known sports betting brand to the state, while adding another gaming option for visitors to the region.

“We’re thrilled to work with Bet365 to provide players with an in-demand and trusted source for safe online wagering,” Bateman said. “It’s an exciting time for our guests and passionate sports fans in Iowa, who will benefit from fantastic site features and attractive offers.”

With 19 licensed operators already taking bets in the state since Iowa went live with sports betting in 2019, there’s no doubt the state is one of the most competitive markets in the country.

There’s also little doubt that Iowa sportsbooks have punched above their weight since launching in 2019, with more than $6 billion wagered and nearly $28 million in tax money funneling from the facilities.

Through four months of 2023, the 19 live sportsbooks in Iowa have taken in just over $832.7 million in wagers, down 10.5% from the $930.1 million the sportsbooks took in during the same period last year.

There’s reason to believe the latter half of the year could be a turning point for the state, however, with the addition of worldwide betting brands like Bet365 and the Iowa and Iowa State football teams both poised for successful seasons.
