Patrick Mahomes effortlessly stomps on the vast majority of NFL franchises. But one team has his number: Cincinnati. The Bengals are the only team Mahomes has lost to three times in his career (including the playoffs). Joe Burrow has a 3-0 record against Mahomes.

The football world will be keeping a close eye on Mahomes’ health in this game. Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in last week’s divisional win over Jacksonville. It momentarily knocked him out of the game in the second quarter but he returned to play the entire second half. Mahomes played well but was limping heavily.

During the week, Mahomes appeared to look fresh on the practice field and was a full participant in all three practices. Still, uncertainty remains about how Mahomes will respond in-game.

But Mahomes has already proven he can fight through a high ankle sprain. He suffered the same injury in Week 1 of the 2019 season, and he responded by throwing for 907 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions over Kansas City’s next two games.

For Cincinnati, the key to getting another road upset will be to replicate the gritty formula that allowed them to defeat Buffalo last week. The Bengals are known for their explosive aerial attack, but it’s their run game and defense that ran the show in Buffalo. Cincinnati rushed for 172 yards and held the Bills to a season-low 10 points.

The Bengals have a good chance of continuing their rushing success against a Chiefs run defense that is only average. Kansas City allowed 144 rushing yards to Jacksonville last week and ranked 15th in rush defense DVOA during the regular season. Buffalo ranked third in rush defense DVOA and the Bengals had no problem running the ball on them, so the Chiefs must be ready to stop the run.

The game total of 48.5 is surprisingly low. Each of the previous three Chiefs-Bengals matchups went over that total, amassing an average total of 55.7. I would expect this game to be another shootout between two stellar offenses.

Finally, do not overlook the many player prop bets Bet MGM offers. Anything from “first touchdown scorer” to “Ja’Marr Chase receiving yards” is available to bet.
