This week, the 8-3 Detroit Lions are looking to right the ship after a tough Week 12 loss and notch a win against the 5-6 New Orleans Saints, who are facing a potential fight for the NFC South wild card spot.

With an 8-3 record, the Lions have been the best this season that they’ve ever been in the Super Bowl era. But that new dominance comes with some big stumbles, too.
All three of their losses were in some way a surprise or a game they were expected to win. The Seahawks beat them at home in Week 2, then they lost by 32 points to the Ravens in Week 7.
Last week, on Thanksgiving Day, they got beat 29-22 by the 5-6 Green Bay Packers – also at home.
The Lions are still comfortably ahead in the NFC North despite the Thanksgiving loss to their division rivals. But they do have to prove they’ve got the goods to stick it out and keep the W’s coming. Plenty of doubters came calling after Detroit went down to a middling Green Bay team.
This matchup against the Saints is a bit of a head-scratcher. The Lions should be able to win it with the talent on their roster – they’ve shown they can win big games. Plus, the Saints have been wildly inconsistent this year with uncertainty at QB.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell spent five seasons as the Saints’ tight ends coach under Sean Payton, while defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was their defensive back coach during those same seasons. That should help put the Lions in more familiar territory.
The Lions should win. But they can’t keep their eye off the ball after last week.
The Saints are in a heated race for the top of the pretty deplorable NFC South. Their Week 12 loss to the Atlanta Falcons brought the two teams into a dead tie.
The Saints need this win to get back to the top spot and keep a playoff spot secured. They’re on a two-game losing streak, split by their bye in Week 11.
The Saints also have yet to cover a game at home, going 0-4 against the spread.
We think the Lions will bounce back in this matchup, as they have after each of their three losses this season. They beat Atlanta 20-6 in Week 3 and Vegas 26-14 in Week 8. Now, after losing to Green Bay at home, we think they’ll uphold their great road record and take a win.
The spread is moving between 3 and 4 points, and it’s close enough that the Lions could cover against a shaky Saints team.
