Betting columnist: Penn State QB Drew Allar will win Heisman Trophy; that futures wager has 25-1 odds

The legalization of sports betting has given pundits and fans alike the ability to back their opinions by putting cold, hard cash on the line.

As the college football season nears its kickoff, a nationally syndicated sports betting columnist says he has wagered on Penn State to win the Big Ten championship and the national championship.

And, in a column carried in Tuesday’s editions of the New York Post, Tanner McGrath of The Action Network says Penn State quarterback Drew Allar will take home the Heisman Trophy.

McGrath states his feeling that the current 25-to-1 odds on Allar taking down the Heisman Trophy are actually lower than they should be.

“He’ll have one of the best pass-blocking offensive lines in the nation, an elite run game to fall back on, solid pass-catchers and good play-calling and coaching. If Allar fulfills his five-star potential he’ll be one of the nation’s best quarterbacks, leading one of the nation’s best teams. That’s the perfect narrative for a Heisman Trophy winner,” McGrath writes

“If Allar plays excellently and the Nittany Lions win the Big Ten or make the College Football Playoff, he’ll be in the conversation for best player in college football,” he wrote.

McGrath states he is “insanely high” on the Nittany Lions chances this season and has already booked future wagers on Penn State to win more than 9.5 games, win the Big Ten Conference and the national championship.

“Penn State has a top-five defensive line and linebacking corps and the undisputed best secondary. The offense returns more than 80 percent of its receiving and rushing yards last season, alongside a rock-solid offensive line led by future first-round pick Olu Fashanu at tackle,” McGrath wrote

“Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen are an elite one-two running back duo, and Kent State wide receiver transfer Dante Cephas will boost the passing game,” McGrath stated.”
