City can climb to top spot

Manchester City are hoping to further strengthen their claims for the Premier League title when they head to Fulham on Sunday.

City flexed their muscles when playing host to league leaders Arsenal on Wednesday, earning a 4-1 win at the Etihad to close the gap on the Gunners to two points with two games in hand.

It is City’s title to lose from here and boss Pep Guardiola will be demanding another commanding performance in the capital against Fulham.

The Cottagers started the campaign with the ambition of avoiding relegation and have comfortably achieved that goal.

Marco Silva’s men emerged as outside contenders for a European berth a month ago, but they have since taken their foot off the gas and look vulnerable ahead of City’s visit.

Arsenal have sat at the top of the Premier League since August 20 but their hopes of winning a first title since 2004 have faltered in recent weeks.

After a run of three successive draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton, their confidence was drained for a season-defining clash at the Etihad on Wednesday.

The Gunners, who really needed to win, appeared to crumble under the pressure against a club with a reputation for turning it on when it matters at the business end of the season.

City look firmly on track to win a third successive league title and a fourth in five seasons, but they cannot afford to admire their hard work against Arsenal, and must turn out another strong performance at Craven Cottage.

Wednesday’s win extended City’s unbeaten streak to 17 in all competitions and they have not lost in eight on the road, winning five during that sequence on their travels.

There is little to suggest that the hosts, who have dropped off over recent weeks, can halt City’s march.

Fulham have lost six of their last eight in all competitions and two of their last three at home have ended in defeat.

However, City’s defence is far from watertight and they have conceded at least one goal in six of their past seven away fixtures. So that suggests backing a victory for the visitors, with both teams to score, could land.

Guardiola’s men can coast to a win

City have scored 82 goals in 31 outings this campaign at an average of 2.6 per game and they have really stepped up their efficiency in front of goal over recent weeks.

Guardiola’s men have netted 15 in their past four league fixtures and have hit four goals in two of their previous three away assignments.

Sunday’s clash will be the third between the two clubs this season, having met in the Premier league and the FA Cup. City won both of those games and they netted over 2.5 in one of them, while the defending champions registered at least three goals in two of their previous three trips to Craven Cottage.

Haaland on course to make more history

Norwegian scoring machine Erling Haaland bagged his 33rd Premier League goal of the campaign in the win over Arsenal, surpassing Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 scored during a 38-game season for Liverpool.

Now the blond hitman has his sights set on bettering Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who both netted 34 times during the days of the 42-game campaign.

Haaland has registered 16 times in his previous 11 appearances in all competitions and is fancied to score anytime in the first leg of our #PickYourPunt selection.

The second part requires Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha to receive a card in the game.

The Portuguese defensive midfielder has picked up 12 cautions this term – more than any other player in the top flight – and been booked in both of his previous two games.
