Reds to build on fine home record

Liverpool will attempt to further strengthen their claims for a European berth when they welcome Brentford to Anfield on Saturday evening.

It has been a pretty miserable season for the Reds on the whole, but they are doing everything possible to try to end on a positive note.

With a run of five successive wins and an unbeaten streak of seven, they have climbed to fifth and they trail fourth-placed Manchester United by four points. But the Red Devils do have a game in hand.

Brentford have enjoyed their second campaign in the Premier League, and they are on track to better last season’s 13th-place finish.

The Bees are flying high in ninth, four points shy of seventh-placed Tottenham, after a three-game unbeaten run.

Liverpool’s struggles this season have come primarily on the road, with Anfield remaining a fortress.

Just 19 of their 59 points have come on their travels, and the Reds’ tally of 40 points at home has only been bettered by Arsenal (42) and Manchester City (46).

They head into Saturday’s game on the back of three successive home wins and are unbeaten in 10 league outings at Anfield.

Brentford also tend to perform better when on home turf – they have got only 19 points away from the Gtech Community Stadium – and have won just one of their last four on the road.

However, it is rare that Brentford just roll over, and they have a strong record for scoring on their travels, registering at least one goal in 11 of their 17 away fixtures.

An additional factor is that Liverpool’s defence has been far from perfect, and they have conceded at least one goal in nine games when playing host, including three of the past four.

Liverpool vs Brentford tip 1: Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 13/8 with Betfred

Patience key for the hosts

Visiting boss Thomas Frank has assembled a talented squad over the past couple of years, and especially this term they have shown they can cause problems for the more established teams in the division.

The Bees’ notable results include a 2-1 win at league leaders Manchester City and a 1-1 draw at second-placed Arsenal.

Brentford are always up for the fight, and they will not simply sit back in awe of Liverpool at Anfield.

With that in mind, getting behind the draw-Liverpool option in the half-time/full-time market appeals.

Liverpool are used to opponents digging in, and two of their past four league outings have been level at the interval before ending in a win for the Reds.

Liverpool vs Brentford tip 2: Draw/Liverpool – half-time/full time @ 7/2 with Betfred

Salah primed to strike

Mohammed Salah made a stuttering start to the season as he netted just twice in August and then did not register again in the league until the middle of October.

The Egyptian certainly was not as consistent as he has been in previous campaigns. However, he has kicked on since the turn of the year and even more so over recent weeks.

Salah has reached 18 goals, and 11 of those have come in 2023.

He has scored six times in his past six league appearances and has found the back of the net once in each of his previous two outings.

The second leg of our #PickYourPunt requires Liverpool to score over 1.5 goals, something they have achieved in six of their last seven at home.
