Bobby Green responds to Paddy Pimblett’s callout: ‘He don’t want that’

Bobby Green has responded to Paddy Pimblett’s callout for UFC 300.

Green was incredulous when first asked about Pimblett, who named him as a potential opponent should he defeat ex-interim champ Tony Ferguson at UFC 296.

“He really said that?” Green asked at the UFC Austin media day in support of his fight with Jalin Turner. “Somebody sent me that, but you know with Instagram, you’re like, ‘Man, did they make this up, just put the words in?’ I don’t know who is telling the truth, but I’m like, bro, there’s no way he called me out.”

Green and Pimblett will share history when Pimblett faces Ferguson next month. Green fought Ferguson in July at UFC 291 and handed Ferguson his sixth straight loss, surprising fans by submitting the longtime veteran.

Pimblett, who’s on a four-fight winning streak, stands between Ferguson getting closer to the record for consecutive UFC losses, while Green currently is on a two-fight winning streak.

Green doubts Pimblett is serious about gambling his UFC momentum on him.

“Paddy knows that’s a bad fight for him,” Green continued. “He don’t want that. He’s just talking. Until he starts walking, get through Tony and then we’ll talk. We’ll talk after that. But Paddy doesn’t want that. That would be a bad fight for him.”

Asked whether Ferguson could pull off the win (Ferguson is a +200 underdog on current betting lines), Green was optimistic about his former opponent, who’s been training with ex-Navy SEAL David Goggins.

“I feel like Tony is going to start pulling something out closer to the third, closer to that second and third round,” Green said. “He pushes a good pace, comes really hard, can take good shots. So if Paddy doesn’t get him on the ground, try to do some jiu-jitsu, I see Tony getting him. Tony hits pretty good, too.”

UFC Austin takes place Saturday at Moody Center in Austin, Texas, and airs on ESPN+.
