Braves vs. Mets prediction and odds for Saturday, April 29

Happy Spencer Strider day to all of those who celebrate, I know that my colleague Joe Summers was one of the first to take part in the Spencer Strider day festivities every five days last year. Now, it’s really kicked into a whole new gear as the young ace of the Atlanta Braves staff is reaching new heights of dominance. The next team to attempt to solve Strider’s stuff is the New York Mets.

The Mets and the Braves are the two teams that’ll be battling it out in the NL East all season long and we have a great weekend series early on as a benchmark in late April. For Game 2 of this four-game series it’s Spencer Strider and Tylor Megill on the mound.

Strider is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA on the year while Megill is 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA. Let’s check out the odds for the Braves and Mets in New York.

There was one thing left for Spencer Strider to figure out to fully turn into a true ace pitcher in the MLB. He needed to become more efficient with his pitchers to get deeper into outings. In his first four starts of the season he did not throw a pitch into the seventh inning or beyond, but was dominant in his five or six innings of work. Then, last start he went 8.0 innings and allowed no runs on two hits with 13 strikeouts and no walks against the Marlins. He was incredible in that start and only needed 101 pitches to get through eight. In his second start of the year he threw 101 across five innings.

If Strider is going to be that efficient from start to start while maintaining his swing-and-miss stuff then he won’t just be one of the Cy Young favorites this year, but for as long as he can stay healthy.

The Mets lineup is solid, but in the past week leading into this weekend they have only hit three homers which is 24th in baseball for that stretch and their .288 on base percentage is 25th. Tylor Megill won’t be able to match Strider pitch for pitch and there’s no way that I can go against one of the most exciting young pitchers in the league.
