Brooklyn Nets vs. Golden State Warriors Prediction, Preview, and Odds

Free Daily NCAAF Lock Pick, Saturday December 16th: Fresno State vs New Mexico State 5:45pm ET

It’s an interconference battle on the parquet floor out in the city by the bay. The Brooklyn Nets are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Golden State Warriors Saturday night. Brooklyn was in action in the Mile-High City as they took on the Nuggets Thursday in the second game of a back-to-back situation, losing 124-101 and failing to cover the line as a nine-point underdog. Golden State was on the road as they took on the Clippers Thursday night in their previous contest, losing 121-113 and failing to cover the line as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Warriors own a 56-41 advantage but the Nets took both meetings last season, including a 120-116 road victory in the most recent matchup on January 22, 2023.

Brooklyn Nets Looking to Prevail on the Road

Brooklyn found themselves on the wrong end of a beatdown as they were unable to follow up their win over the Suns as they were thrashed by the Nuggets Thursday night. The Nets fell to 13-11 on the season and stood fourth in the Atlantic Division, 5.5 games behind the Celtics for the top spot. They were eighth in the Eastern Conference, half a game behind the Knicks for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the East entering Friday and 3.5 games clear of the 11-place Hawks. Against Denver, Brooklyn trailed by seven after the opening quarter and by 13 at the half: they never got closer than 10 in the second half as they went down quietly in defeat. The Nets shot 41.1% from the floor, including eight of 30 from three-point range, and turned the ball over 16 times in the loss. Spencer Dinwiddie led the Nets with 17 points and eight assists in the loss.

The Nets enter this game 9 in the league in scoring offense as they average 116.2 points per game on the year. Brooklyn is 1 in the league in rebounding with 47.7 boards per contest and 16 in assists by dishing out 25.9 dimes a night. The Nets are 18 in the league in scoring defense by allowing 114.3 points per contest. Cam Thomas leads the team as he puts up 22.7 points per game. Mikal Bridges (22.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists), Lonnie Walker IV (14.6 points), Dorian Finney-Smith (10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds), Cameron Johnson (14.4 points) and Spencer Dinwiddie (14.8 points, 6.5 assists) each are solid scoring options as well. The Nets look to get production from Royce O’Neale, Armoni Brooks, Nic Claxton (11.7 points, 9.2 rebounds), Day’Ron Sharpe, Trendon Watford, Ben Simmons and Dennis Smith Jr. Brooklyn is 18 in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 47% from the field as a team on the year. The Nets are 6 in the league in three-point field goals per game as they drain 14.5 triples per game while they stand 3 in three-point field goal percentage by hitting 38.5% from beyond the arc.

Simmons (hip) last played on November 6 and is expected to be out until late December. Smith Jr. (back) has played just twice since November 16 and has been out since December 6: he remains out with no timetable to return. Walker IV (hamstring) last took the floor on November 30 and is expected to be out until late December.

Golden State Warriors Trying to Hang In Despite Struggles

Golden State dropped their third straight game and their fourth in the last five as they were dropped on the road by the Clippers Thursday night. The Warriors entered Friday 10-14 on the season and in the basement of the Pacific Division, 4.5 games behind the Kings and Lakers for the top spot. They were 11 in the Western Conference, 4.5 games behind the Lakers for the final guaranteed playoff spot and three games behind the Suns for the final spot in the play-in tournament. Against LA, Golden State trailed by one after the opening quarter, by 13 at the half and by six after three quarters. The Warriors got within one with 8:52 to play but gave up a 6-0 run and never got closer than four the rest of the way. Golden State shot 43.5% from the field, including 16 of 45 from three-point range, and allowed the Clippers to shoot 50.6% in the contest. Klay Thompson paced Golden State with 30 points and five assists in the loss.

On the year, the Warriors are 11 in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of 115.5 points per game. Golden State stands 2 in rebounding as they collect an average of 47.3 boards per contest while they are 7 in assists by handing out an average of 27.4 dimes per contest. The Warriors are 20 in the league in scoring defense by allowing 115.5 points per contest. Stephen Curry leads the team with 28.6 points, five rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this season. Andrew Wiggins adds 12 points per game while Draymond Green puts up 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per night. Klay Thompson (16 points), Kevon Looney, Chris Paul, Moses Moody, Dario Saric, Gary Payton II and Jonathan Kuminga (12 points) are solid secondary scoring options. Golden State is 26 in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 45.1% from the floor as a team on the year. The Warriors are fourth in the league in threes per game by knocking down 14.8 triples a night while they are 15 in three-point shooting by hitting 36.6% from beyond the arc as a team.

Payton (calf) last took the floor on November 28 and is expected to be out until late December at best. Green was suspended indefinitely after his punch to Jusuf Nurkic of the Suns on December 12 so his return to action is undetermined at this point in time.

Golden State has struggled mightily this season, losing three straight and four of five entering this game. The Warriors are four games under .500 and the Splash Brothers aren’t getting much help on the offensive end while regressing as the minutes pile up in their respective careers. Green being a head case doesn’t help issues at all as he remains suspended, taking another veteran piece out of the mix. Brooklyn is a team that has had some health issues but they have most of their key components on the floor here. The Nets are playing their third game in four nights but with the Warriors reeling, you have to give the edge to Brooklyn in this contest.

Prediction: Brooklyn Nets +3.5

Brooklyn goes into Friday’s action having seen the over post a 12-12 mark in their 24 games this season. The Nets are below average in the league in tempo as they are 20th in the league with an average of 98.2 possessions a night. The Nets are 6th in turnovers as they commit an average of 13.2 turnovers per contest this season. Golden State entered Friday having gone over the number in 14 of their 24 games on the year. The Warriors are 10th in the league in turnovers with 15.7 per contest while they are 13th in tempo by averaging 99.5 possessions a night on the year. With Brooklyn fatigued and Golden State struggling, points might be a little harder to come by than expected. Take the under in this contest.

Prediction: Under 235.5
