The preseason rankings of college football's Kings of the North are based on geographic area.
29 of the 65 teams from power conferences are from the North. The North has more challenges to reach national success than the South. Kings of North is a title that means something to the team from this part of America. KOTN Top 10 is the first in-season ranking of college football teams in the Northern part.
Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in the College Football Kings of the North rankings.

The Panthers have played overtime games in their first two games. They beat the Mountaineers and lost to Tennessee. Without quarterback Kenny Pickett and receiver Jordan Addison, the Panthers are averaging 100 fewer passing yards per game than last year.

The Wolverines are looking for rhythm on offense and a dynamic play from their quarterback. The defense is ranked seventh in the country by Football Outsiders F+ rating. They play Iowa this week. Ohio State is the only team ranked in top 10.
Penn State is the No. 5 defense in the nation according to the F+ ratings. The Nittany Lions have improved their offense this season with the addition of playmakers Mitchell Tinsley and Nicholas Singleton. They have won at Purdue and at Auburn. Their next game is at Michigan on October 15.
Ohio State won the Northern title last year, but they lost to Oregon and Michigan this year. They have won over Notre Dame and Wisconsin in the first month.
