Orioles vs Blue Jays Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays will host the Baltimore Orioles for game one of their divisional series this Friday from the Rogers Centre on Apple TV.

Orioles Betting Preview

Baltimore moved to 28-16 after splitting four games with Los Angeles. The Orioles nearly took the final three games, but they’d fall victim to the production of talented Angels duo in game four, and they’ll look to respond in Toronto this weekend. The Baltimore offense is scoring 4.95 runs per game, while batting .252, with a .329 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.09 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP. Cedric Mullins has a hit in six of the last nine games, and he leads the O’s in RBI (34). Ryan Mountcastle has produced a run in three straight games, and he leads the team in HR (9), with 30 RBI. Austin Hays has a hit in nine of the last ten games, and he now leads Baltimore in batting (.299).

Kyle Gibson (4-3, 4.67 ERA, 36 Ks) will get the ball for Baltimore. The veteran pitcher has cooled off after starting his stint as an Oriole on a high note. Gibson suffered a third straight loss after allowing four runs to Pittsburgh in five innings last time out, and he might have a tough time with this Toronto lineup. Gibson has pitched four quality starts in nine appearances, while only clearing five strikeouts three times.

Blue Jays Betting Preview

Toronto moved to 25-19 after dropping three of four games to New York. The Blue Jays failed to follow up their sweep of the Braves strong, and they’ll look to respond at home this weekend. The Toronto offense is scoring 4.85 runs per game, while batting .258, with a .330 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.92 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Bo Bichette homered in the series finale against the Yanks to bring his team-leads to 10 homers and 29 RBI. Vlad Guerrero Jr. has produced a run in each of the last five games, and he’s second on the team in RBI at 27. Kevin Kiermaker has multiple hits in six of the last eight games, and he now leads the Jays in batting (.327). Matt Chapman is third on the team in RBI (22) and BA (.313).

Yusei Kikuchi (5-0, 3.89 ERA, 33 Ks) will take the mound for Toronto. The fifth-year lefty found trouble with Atlanta on Sunday, allowing nine hits and five runs in four innings. Luckily, the bats had his back and he managed to remain undefeated, and he’ll look to get back on track here at home. Kikuchi has allowed one run or less in five of his first eight starts, while clearing six strikeouts in four of those.

Baltimore vs Toronto Trends

Baltimore is 27-17 against the spread this season, with a 20-19-4  O/U record. Toronto is 22-21 ATS this year, with a 21-18-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Kyle Gibson’s recent stretch of play puts a cloud over Baltimore heading into this contest. Throw in Yusei Kikuchi’s form to begin the season, and it feels like this spot may be an uphill battle for the visiting Orioles. After dropping three AL East games at home to the Yanks, the Jays should come out looking to keep pace in the toughest division in sports, and I like their chances with an advantage on the mound. Back Toronto in game one of this divisional battle of birds.
