Chicago White Sox vs San Diego Padres Prediction 9-30-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Chicago White Sox meet Saturday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. This will be the second installment in the final series of the regular season. On Friday in the opener, the Padres eked out a victory. Check back all season long for free MLB at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego Padres

The Padres took on the Giants in their last series and managed two wins in three games. Tuesday was a 4-0 victory and then came a 5-2 result Wednesday. In the Friday game one matchup versus the Sox, San Diego was up 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth but had to hold on for a 3-2 win. Trent Grisham posted two RBI in the win, and Xander Bogaerts put up two hits with an RBI.

As starting pitcher for game two, the Padres are going with Michael Wacha. This year over his 23 starts Wacha is 13-4 with a 3.39 ERA and 117 Ks in 127.1 innings. Wacha has gone 4-2 with a 5.12 ERA over his last seven starts.

It’ll be Mike Clevinger in the starting pitcher role for the Sox on Saturday. In his 23 starts so far Clevinger is 9-8 with a 3.40 ERA and 108 Ks in 129.2 innings. Clevinger has gone 4-3 with a 3.68 ERA in his last seven starts, striking out 37 in that time.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll try the White Sox in this one. We should have a pretty fun starter matchup regardless, though. Clevinger is 2-1 over his last three starts with five earned runs in 21.0 innings of work. As for Wacha, he’s 2-0 with four earned in 12.0 innings in his last pair. I like both guys to at least flirt with quality outings here. On Friday Chicago got a late run from the offense in the final two innings but overall there wasn’t much going on at the plate for most of the game. I like the Sox to get a solid pitching effort overall in game two—the bats need to come along for the ride, though.
