Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo replacing Yankees’ Michael Kay on ESPN Radio?

Michael Kay has made references to the possibility of leaving ESPN Radio once his contract expires later this year.

That opens up the possibility for speculation that ESPN could approach Chris Russo for the potential position, being that Russo is already a weekly guest on the network’s show “First Take.”

But Russo tells Neil Best of Newsday“I would think that’s probably not realistic ... “I’m not going to leave Sirius, let’s put it that way. I love Sirius so much. They’ve been good to me ... I’m not ruling out the idea somebody takes an hour of Sirius and puts it on terrestrial radio. That would be different . . . But Sirius in the afternoon, I’m going to do that as long as they’ll have me, to make a long story short.”

Earlier this month, the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand dropped a bombshell when he reported Kay is “seriously contemplating retiring from his ESPN New York show.”

Marchand reported that 61-year-old Kay has no plans to give up job as the voice of New York Yankees baseball on YES Network. Marchand reported Kay also wants to continue doing the “KayRod Cast” with former Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez on ESPN’s alternate broadcasts of Sunday Night Baseball.
