Cincinnati Reds at Seattle Mariners 3/10/23

The Seattle Mariners host the Cincinnati Reds for a Spring Training game at 3:10 p.m. Friday at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. The Reds may have a split squad as they also have a home game in the evening against the Diamondbacks.

The Mariners and Dodgers played to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday. Seattle prospect Alberto Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to make it 2-1 before the Dodgers tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Logan Gilbert started and pitched three innings for Seattle. He allowed just two hits and struck out two batters.

The Reds lost to the Cubs, 8-6, on Thursday. Cincinnati scored three runs in the first with two coming on a home run by catcher Luke Maile. Jason Vosler homered in the second inning to put Cincinnati up 4-0. The Reds led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth after Hunter Greene threw four scoreless innings and Levi Stoudt blanked Chicago in the fifth. The Cubs would score six runs off Stoudt in the sixth, however, and get two more in the seventh off Casey Legumina.

Seattle made the playoffs as a Wild Card team last season, finishing second in the American League West at 90-72, 16 games behind the Houston Astros. The Mariners knocked out the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round 2-0, then got swept by Houston, 3-0, in the ALDS. Cincinnati finished tied for last with Pittsburgh in the National League Central at 62-100. The Reds fell 24 games short of a playoff spot.

Cincinnati (7-6) is sixth in the Cactus League standings, while Seattle (5-6) is eighth. The Reds have scored 99 runs and allowed 98, while the Mariners have scored 46 and given up 61. The expected starting pitchers are Connor Overton for Cincinnati and George Kirby for Seattle. With the Mariners at home and the Reds playing two games, we’ll take Seattle. Final Score Prediction: Seattle Mariners win 6-4.
